AFS participates in events to advance Syrian-led humanitarian solutions

Throughout July 2025, AFS participated in events aimed at promoting locally-led and principled humanitarian responses in Syria.

On 17 July, Fabio Pellegrino, Head of Risk at AFS, joined the ICVA Network’s discussion on risk sharing in pooled funds, sharing insights from AFS’s Risk Management Forums with 35 partners, including CBOs. Watch the recording here.

On 2 July, Murad Maithalouni, Deputy Executive Director – Quality and Impact, and Project Director, Daniel Pimlott, attended the Qatar Charity–OCHA Strategic Consultative Roundtable in Doha on Enhancing Humanitarian and Development Coordination in Syria, with the Executive Director Andrea Quaden joining online. The event addressed Syria’s humanitarian landscape, localisation, HDP Nexus programming, displacement dynamics, and post-sanctions coordination.

On 3 July, AFS’s Executive Director, took part in the Innovative Finance Roundtable: Catalysing Investment for Humanitarian Demining and Livelihoods through Innovative Finance, convened by the Humanitarian Finance Forum with FCDO, Instiglio, and DanChurchAid. Discussions focused on outcome-based financing, risk-sharing models, and mobilising private capital to support humanitarian mine action and livelihoods in northeast Syria.
