AFNS is proud to announce the launch of its Anchor Organisation concept, a strategic initiative designed to enhance the capabilities of Community Based Local Actors in northern Syria. The approach aims to prioritise and channel funding to smaller, grassroots organisations, enabling them to access AFNS support without needing to meet the eligibility criteria for direct funding.
The introduction of the Anchor Organisation application last week marks a significant step in the actualisation of AFNS’s Localisation Strategy, which underscores the importance of local ownership in effective humanitarian response.
AFNS’s Anchor Organisation concept offers a comprehensive approach to funding smaller entities, providing targeted capacity-strengthening and support to enhance their operational capabilities. Entities selected to be Anchor Organisations will be tasked with identifying, partnering with, and managing local organisations to implement projects that address local needs and build long-term resilience in communities. These organisations are committed to enhancing local capabilities, fostering participatory decision-making, and ensuring that interventions are contextually appropriate and sustainable.
The selection process for Anchor Organisations is rigorous and transparent, ensuring that only entities with significant operational capacity and a proven track record in humanitarian response are chosen. These organisations must demonstrate robust organisational structures, financial stability, and a commitment to the principles of localisation. Anchor organisations will be announced during the fourth calendar quarter of 2024.
With the launch of the Anchor Organisation Concept and its ongoing mapping of nearly 600 Community Based Local Actors, AFNS reaffirms its commitment to empowering local actors and enhancing the effectiveness of humanitarian responses in northern Syria.
